When farming dilithium at the Ker'rat system, there a re a few ways to go about this. If your character has not reached max level, or even the admiral\general ranks, its best to stay in the instance you get spawned into because all the instances that appear in the selection menu above your map, are generally admiral and general playing grounds and slaughter fields. But if your are max level, your options for different variations on the theme become more readily open. To my knowledge there are really 2 ways to go about farming at ker'rat, although, like i said earlier, one is not recommended for lower than lvl 40 players.
You could farm your starting instance. If your a lower level, this can be like trying to farm the Admiral instances, only difference is, the people there hunting you are the same rank. It provides the best balance of speed of completion of the warzones objectives, while at the same time, promising that those who actually make an effort to complete it get somewhat wealthy in the process after a few good runs of commander Makza's mission.
The other option, which is best for admirals if you like a level playing field with the pvp'ers. is to switch away from the starting instance. Once you arrive there, you will notice several things different. For one thing, there will either be an over abundance of your own faction in which case the pvp will not pose a problem. You dont have to worry aobut them taking the initiative and getting all the good loot because its all mk I and Mk II. The borg vessels are all level zero. This means that the borg cubes have less health than the miranda class ship that we all started off with. You could easily kill the tactical cube while flying a runabout(I have done this, its actually kinda fun.). Because of the weakness of everything there, the repair hulks can be destroyed with one massive volley from a ship built for DPS. The other thing that can happen there, however, is it could be an over abundance of the klingon faction. when this happens, your better off looking for another instance because, unlike the klingons, we dont have dilithium earning missions where we get ore for killing "X" amount of federation player captains and get even more ore for being killed by federation captains 25 times, like they do. Also, if there is an over abundance of klingons there, nobody is going to get the objectives done. THis is due to the fact that the klingon players like spawn camping, and setting traps that make it so your trapped on spawning. They do this by having the engineering ships flood the area with warp plasma while the tactical ones flood the area with theta radiation. and for those that do get away, there are more hiding in the zone, under cloak. Best thing to do in that case is let them kill you, and switch instances when the respawn button appears.
So basically those are the 2 best ways to farm dilithium at ker'rat. Be advised that now there is a roughly 10 minute cool down timer on makza's mission. This timer has a glitch though. Sometimes....it doesn't kick in and you can repeat the mission immediately.
Thats the basic guide for now. Later on i wil amend this post to include a list of recommendations on ship build, bridge officer skill builds and things like that.
